Respect

for Self

Respect for self is about identifying our emotions about different topics and becoming aware on how they influence our views on these topics.

Respect

for Reason

Respect for Reason is about providing logical reasoning to support a point of view. Good reasoning often has a logical flow and is backed up by evidence.

Respect

for Difference

Respect for Difference is the third component of the Street Smarts model and is about recognising why someone may hold a particular point of view.

Respect

for Change

Respect for Change is the fourth and final component of the Street Smarts model. Respect for Change is the disposition to change one’s mind in light of.

Obstacles

for critical thinking

Obstacles to critical thinking hinder our ability to reason with logic. These affect each component of the Street Smarts model and are important to learn about. Learning about obstacles to critical thinking is the first step to avoiding these in our reasoning and when forming arguments and conclusions. Work through each of the modules below and complete the activities within each one.

Logical Fallacies

Statements or reasoning which appears to be true until the rules of logic are applied.

Ad Hominem

Attack opponent’s character or traits rather than arguments.

HEURISTIC BIAS
